She attended Abilene Christian College (now University), graduating in 1951. In 1953 she married Joseph Lindsey Alexander and moved to Houston where she lived the remainder of her life. Her husband predeceased her in 1996 after several years of ill health.

Alexander worked in the personnel departments of energy related companies in Houston. Most of her adult life was spent volunteering in various organizations. Included are PTA, Girl Scouts, Church, AARP, Piney Woods Wildlife Society, the Red Hats, and The Mended Hearts, a national support group for heart patients and families. For 19 ½ years she was active at the local, regional and national levels. She produced an awardwinning newsletter for the local chapter for ten years and was named National Mended Heart of the Year in 1995. A Navy Exes group of which her husband and brother-in-law were members existed for 57 years, and she acted as the group’s secretary for 32 years, during which time she coordinated communication, produced two mailings a year, facilitated the annual reunions, keeping in touch until all the sailors were gone. She facilitated a writing group for twelve years and hosted a Christmas party for them every year for nine years. She facilitated a number of the volunteer groups for several years and served as president for a few of them. After retiring from The Mended Hearts, she began speaking and telling stories for senior and non-profit organizations. An injury to her voice box ended her speaking activities.

Alexander is survived by her three daughters: Vicki LaTour, husband Jerry, of Kerrville; Toni Alexander of Austin; and Judy Blanco, husband Clark, of Houston. Also surviving are nephews James Paul McClure and Jesse Lopez of Ft. Worth; Mike Pruitt, widower of niece Sondra and his wife Barby of Conroe; and Mike’s son, P J. A family celebration of life was held earlier, and the interment of ashes will take place in the fall at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston, Texas.
