MARILY CHILES MONZINGO

Marilyn Jane Chiles Monzingo went to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, the 1st of July 2022, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer.

She was born on the 27th of July 1932, in Chelsea, Oklahoma, to Robert Shelton Chiles and Mildred Oklahoma Hoenstein. Marilyn had a twin sister, Mildred Jean Chiles, and older brother, Robert Chiles. Marilyn grew up and graduated from Vinita High school in Vinita, Oklahoma. Marilyn graduated from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University). After graduation, Marilyn moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In Tulsa, Marilyn met the love of her life, Cloy Denson Monzingo, at Boston Avenue Methodist Church. Cloy was an attorney for Getty Oil Company and was transferre­d to Houston in 1961. Cloy and Marilyn were married at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Houston on the 2nd of September 1961. They had a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Elizabeth.

Marilyn was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmothe­r and will be greatly missed. The most important things in Marilyn’s life were her faith in Jesus and her family.

Marilyn loved Houston and served her community in numerous ways through the years. Marilyn taught third grade at Pilgrim Elementary School. The family joined Westminste­r United Methodist Church in 1974 where Marilyn was an active member for almost 50 years. She was also involved in the Blue Bird Circle, Holly Hall Book Review, Tanglewood Garden Club, and Lady Washington DAR Chapter. Marilyn also enjoyed exercising at the YMCA and spending time with family and friends.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Mildred Wyatt. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Cloy; her son, Matthew; and granddaugh­ter, Kimberly Jane; her daughter, Elizabeth Monzingo Bezemek and her husband Gary; and grandchild­ren, Christophe­r Cloy and Sarah Elizabeth; and her brother Robert Chiles.

The family would like to acknowledg­e and thank Cole’s Concierge Services, Homewatch Caregivers and Belmont Village Hunters Creek Assisted Living for all of their help in caring for Marilyn over the last few years.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 12th of July, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

A Memorial Service is to be conducted at half past eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 13th of July, at Westminste­r United Methodist Church, 5801 San Felipe Street in Houston.

Immediatel­y following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the church parlor.
