MARY (TOOMEY) RUSSELL

Mary S. (Toomey) Russell passed away peacefully in Round Rock, TX on July 9, 2022, one month shy of her 99th birthday. She was born in New Orleans, LA on August 13, 1923 to Salvatore and Mary Trippe Scaccia. She is survived by her brother Ross Scaccia, daughter Lisa Wald (Steve) of Round Rock, sons Steve Toomey (Mills) and Mike Toomey (Shawn) of Houston TX and Bill Toomey (Julie) of Mount Vernon, WA, ten grandchild­ren, thirteen great grandchild­ren, and many loving and supportive nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands William Toomey and Jack Russell, brother Vincent Scaccia, and sisters Louise Friedman and Joann Sikes.

Mary grew up in New Orleans and married William J. Toomey, Jr. in 1948. The family made Houston their home in 1960. Widowed in 1973, she married Jack Russell and together they continued calling Houston home. She relocated to Round Rock due to declining health in 2019 at the age of 96.

Mary loved to play golf; over the years she was an active member of both Pine Forest Country Club and Braeburn Country Club, and for many years she volunteere­d with the Houston Women’s Golf Associatio­n’s annual cancer tournament. She was an accomplish­ed bridge player (duplicate preferably).

She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Houston and attended St. Michael Catholic Church later in life. She had many life-long friends and was fortunate to have the friendship and support of Ann O’Conner in her later years.

Mary lived a good and long life, always faithful to her Lord. A celebratio­n of life will be held at a later date. In her memory, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
