Michael Owen Young, 74, passed away on July 6, 2022, in Houston, Texas with his family by his side.

Michael was born on May 5, 1948, in Houston, Texas to Owen and Peggy Sue (Williams) Young. He grew up in Garden Oaks, attended Baptist Temple and graduated from Waltrip High School. He enjoyed many successful seasons of basketball at the YMCA in his youth and attended the University of Houston.

He followed in his father and grandfather’s footsteps and retired from the United States Postal Service after serving in many capacities including Personnel Director. His career brought him and his family to Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and finally back to Houston.

After his early retirement he continued to advocate for employee rights and represented many Postal employees through arbitration. He spent the rest of his years working as an entrepreneur in many different fields of both construction and sales. He was an eighth generation Texan and proud member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas.

He loved to spend time with friends and family, dance, philosophize and tell stories. He was a lifelong learner and specifically loved figuring out how things work and learning about Texas history and the role his family played in it. He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Barbara Young, his children, Shannon Stellato and husband Bob, Corrisa Nutt and husband Kenneth, Michelle Babbitt and husband Jason, Brad Young and wife Beth and thirteen grandchildren: Sydney, Adam, Madeleine, Andrew, Owen, Jacqueline, Leah, Claire, Candise, Chase, Brookelynn, Brayden and Dyllan.

The void he left in his family and community is immeasurable. Family and friends are invited to join us for a celebration of his life on Friday, August 19th. A visitation and memorial service

will be held from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home (13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060), followed by interment.
