MARY ELIZABETH LANDRUM

Mary Elizabeth Landrum, age 80, passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2022 at her home in Houston, Texas. Mary was born in Beaumont, Texas February 21, 1942.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Samuel Bedell Landrum and Helen Dutton Landrum. Mary graduated from Beaumont High School in 1960 and continued her education at The University of Texas in Austin. She spent a year studying French at the University of Geneva before graduating from UT-Austin in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. At The University of Texas, she met her lifelong friends, Nancy Wilbur, Priscilla

Lupe and Patricia Thorpe. Mary loved their friendship, humor, companionship and being together sharing their many stories and experiences, always highly embellished.

Mary is survived by her sister, Jane Hendricks and husband, Alan, along with her nephew Jason Hendricks, his wife, Robine and their children, Isabella, Gabriella and Gus; her nephew Sam Hendricks and his wife,

Jennifer and their children, Kate and Nick. She is also survived by her brother, John Landrum and his wife, Susan, their children, Catherine Heitmeyer and her husband, Stefan, and their children, Camilla and Annabel, and Travis Landrum and his wife, Katy, and their children, Lucy and Bo. Mary adored her niece and nephews along with all of their beautiful children. Her time with any of them were some of the happiest moments of her life.

Mary began an import business in the 1980’s that took her to West Africa many times. She imported from both Liberia and the Ivory Coast. She had a shop in Abidjan where local artisans crafted jewelry of her design. In 1994 she moved from Houston to Dallas to open a showroom at the World Trade Center and expanded her imports with antique books and silver from the United Kingdom. She also imported silver jewelry that she designed and had crafted in Mexico, along with silver picture frames and collectibles. In February 2022, Mary moved back to Houston to be closer to her family.

Mary had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh and tell stories about her travels, spend time with her dear friends, Nancy, Priscilla and Patricia, and enjoy any time with family, her many cousins, and especially with her niece and nephews who she loved so dearly. She loved her dog, Winston, a constant companion. Mary was a devout Christian and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

When you look into the sky at night, any night, you will see a small twinkling star, making the night a little brighter and that is the light Mary Landrum gave this world.

A Memorial Service for her will be held on August 15, 2022 at 2:30 PM at Bradshaw Carter Memorial and Funeral Services at 1734 West Alabama Street in Houston, Texas. Immediately following the service, you are invited to remain for a reception and refreshments.
