Larry Joe Davis of Houston passed away August 11, 2022 after a gradual decline ending with Covid-19. Raised in Dallas, Larry graduated from Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas in 1969 (Hook ‘Em!), then lived and worked in Waco, Lawton, Oklahoma, and Houston over the next decades. In 1983, he married Linda Cowan of Waco and Houston, his wife of nearly 35 years, who predeceased him in 2018. Larry was “Poppee” to his and Linda’s five grandchildren, Caroline, Justin, Michael, Griffin, and Sarah, and to his “sixth grandchild,” Madi, Justin’s wife. A brilliant man, Larry taught himself computer programming at the advent of the home computer in the 1980s. That led to a career at the Harris County Appraisal District, where he helped innovate and improve the district’s computerized appraisal system having had no prior formalized computer training. His gentle, affable, and loving demeanor—remarkably ever-present despite a lifetime of mobility, hearing, and finally other health challenges—will be greatly missed by his stepchildren, grandchildren, and other family and friends. And, as Poppee would definitely say, “Go ‘Stros!” Donations in Larry’s memory are requested to the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (www.cmtausa. org) or to Holy Spirit Episcopal Church of Houston (www. holyspirithouston.org).
