Margaret Stewart Dickey entered into eternity on Monday, the 8th of August 2022, just 22 days past crossing the century mark.

She was born in Greenwood, Mississipp­i on the 17th of July 1922, to Gertrude and Sidney Stewart. In 1927, the family moved to New Orleans where she spent her childhood in an old city with many lovely customs and manners. She graduated from Newcomb College at Tulane University with a BA in history and fine arts.

In 1942, she married her prince - DuVal F. Dickey, then a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. After the war years, DuVal resumed his career with Standard Oil, which was to became EXXON. With their young family of two children they moved many times to wonderful cities and loved all the adventure and friends they found in new locales. In 1968, they moved to Houston where in 1972 DuVal became Vice President of Marketing for Exxon USA.

Margaret was member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood as well as DAR. For forty years she was a member of Etoffe Literaire and bridge groups in Houston. The family was a member of River Oaks Country Club, as well as members of St Martin’s Episcopal Church.

The three great highlights of her life were meeting DuVal, and playing the part of Titania in a high school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and christenin­g the Esso Kentucky in 1973. Margaret was happiest when entertaini­ng her family, friends and neighbors.

She lost the love of her life, DuVal, in 2010. Margaret leaves behind her son, DuVal Dickey, Jr and his wife Ludmila; her daughter, Virginia “Ginger” Nelson and her husband Charles E. Nelson; he beloved grandchild­ren, Glen Dickey, Douglas Dickey, Emma Dickey, and Charles E. “Charlie” Nelson, Jr.; and six great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by her brother, George G. Stewart of Alpharetta, Georgia; and many very dear nieces and nephews in New Orleans.

The family will gather for a private inurnment in the Garden of the Sacred Cross at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
