Margaret (Margo) Walker Kendrick was born in El Paso, Texas to Harry Davis and Josephine Strutzel Walker on February 27, 1947. She was a teacher who retired after 30 years of teaching speech and government along with coaching debate in several HISDS schools and St. John’s School of Houston. Margo was Director of Forensics and Instructor of Speech at Northeast Louisiana University. She was named as an Outstanding Young Educator, a Crystal Apple Teacher and held several offices with National Forensic League.

Her debaters attended and won numerous honors at local, state and national

competitions. Margo herself was a state and nationally recognized debater in both high school and college. She received her BA from Texas Tech University and a MS from Florida State University. She is predeceased by her husband of 35 years Robert (Bob) Kendrick. Margo is survived by her sister Susanne Evans and her husband Randall. Family who will miss Margo include Dwight, Sarah Jane, Jackson and Evan Baker of Austin; Emily, Gerardo, Julian and Catalina Amelio; and Cullen, Roxy, Walker and Augie Evans all of Houston. Margo’s largest family was the hundreds of students that she taught, mentored and loved. So many of these students stayed in touch with her during her life.

For several summers Margo lived in New Mexico and studied Native American culture and art. She was a lifelong Democrat and served as President of the Bellaire Democrats for four years. In addition to working for various candidates at election, she worked as an election clerk and election judge. Among her hobbies were reading British cozy mysteries, taking Spanish classes and making pottery. She and her husband Bob loved, raised and showed beagle dogs. Margo will be remembered by all who knew her for her passion for beagle dogs, debaters and Democrats.
