Davis helps Katy kick early rust

-

Katy was penalized 15 yards for a low block on its first play and committed two other personal fouls in an uneven start to the season. But the unequaled talent of running back Seth Davis kept the Tigers in an enviable position.

The senior Mississippi State commit ran for a 78-yard score on the second play and had 163 yards at halftime.

With Davis — who rushed for more than 2,000 yards last year — leading the way, No. 5 state-ranked Katy shook off the early rust and rolled to a 49-16 victory against Clear Springs on Friday evening at Challenger Columbia Stadium.

Davis finished with 277 yards and three TDs on 23 carries.

“Anytime you can win against a good opponent, it's a good win,” Katy coach Gary Joseph said. “We have a lot of growing up to do, and we played a lot of snaps and got pushed, and early in the season you need that to happen to get your kids into shape.”
