Georgine Roberts Cheavens died in Austin on August 29, 2022, at age 82 from complications due to Alzheimer’s Disease. Her husband of 58 years Joe Cheavens was by her side.

Georgine was born February 9, 1940, Coedpoeth, Wales to George and Mary (McGowan) Roberts. The family moved to Brighton, England in 1953. She graduated high school in 1958 and went to nursing school graduating in 1961. After working in England for two years, she decided to pursue her passion of traveling, so she moved to New York to work at the Bronx Municipal Hospital. After her one-year contract was up, she started a new job at Hermann Hospital in Houston.

It was in Houston that she met her husband, Joseph Cheavens. After their marriage on August 15, 1964, they moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts where Joe completed his third year of law school. They then moved to Houston where Joe started his lifelong career at the Baker Botts law firm.

Georgine and Joe have four children: Mark (b. 1965), Joe, Jr. (b. 1966), Elizabeth (b.

1969), and Sarah (b. 1971). As their kids grew up, Georgine went back to school, pursuing her passion for art. She became an accomplished painter and sculptor at the Glassell School of Art in Houston, and she spent hours working on her paintings and sculptures. Along the way she also became interested in computers. She built computers, became a certified network engineer, was expert at Adobe Photoshop, and simply knew everything about operating her Mac.

Georgine loved to travel – starting in nursing school when she and friends hitchhiked around Italy. Georgine accompanied Joe on some of his work travels, both in the U.S. and abroad and especially when he traveled to Great Britain where she could visit her family. As Joe approached retirement, they embarked on a program of foreign travels. They visited 72 countries and every continent.

Georgine is preceded in death by her mother Mary, father George, and brother Peter. She is survived by her husband Joe; four children, and eight grandchildren.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the loving and professional staff at Silverado Barton Springs Memory Care facility where Georgine spent the last three years of her life.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 18th at 2:00pm at the Golf Club of Houston, 5860 Wilson Road, Humble, Texas. A reception will follow at the Club for Joe and Georgine’s numerous friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice in memory of Georgine.
