Starting pitcher Nick Pivetta left Friday night’s start against Texas in the third inning with a bruised left calf.

Pivetta was hit by Leody Taveras’ comebacker. Pivetta threw out Taveras at first base to end the inning, but hobbled off the field.

After the game, though, he wasn’t sure if he would make his next start.

“I take really great pride in that,” Pivetta said. “I look forward to continuing that streak and continuing getting on the mound.”

Righthander Tanner Houck will undergo season-ending surgery for an ongoing back issue. Houck hasn’t pitched since Aug. 2. He made 32 appearances this season with a 3.15 ERA, 56 strikeouts and eight saves over 60 innings.
