Randall Herzstein passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 8 at the age of 75.

Born and raised in Houston, Randy and his brother Marc lived on Falkirk with a lifelong group of friends he dubbed the “Falkirk Gang.” He loved reminiscin­g about his days taking the bus downtown to James Coney Island and the Majestic Theater.

Randy had a passion for lifelong learning. He attended college at the University of Arizona and the Lamar State College of Technology where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineerin­g. He then went on to earn both a Master of Mechanical Engineerin­g and a Master of Business Administra­tion from The University of Houston. Outside of his university education, he was always learning and mastering diverse new skills, like rewiring his own home, taking formal cooking classes, or running his own computer servers.

Throughout his younger years, Randy served in the Army Reserves in Corpus Christi on the weekends. Randy worked in the air conditioni­ng business where he designed and installed air conditioni­ng in large buildings. Later in life he volunteere­d for the IRS helping economical­ly disadvanta­ged people prepare their taxes.

Randy loved technology and had every Apple computer, iPad, and iPhone. An avid early adapter, if it was shiny and had an Apple on it, he would be in line to buy it. He would frequently say that he lived in Texas so that he could attend both Mac World East Coast and West Coast. His friends would often call for tech advice, and he was always willing to help.

Randy married his longtime friend, Sandra Smith Herzstein, in 2011. They were known for their beautiful and lively dinner parties. They traveled abroad and frequently visited friends and family around the country.

Randy is also survived by three talented and intelligen­t children, Michael Herzstein and fiancé, Amanda Terranova of Dallas, Bari Herzstein Fishel and husband David of Houston, and Marcie Prohofsky of San Francisco. He also leaves behind his adored and precious grandchild­ren, Max, Elise, and Theodore Fishel, his brother Marc Herzstein and wife Judy, Michael and Bari’s mother Adele Herzstein, his sister-in-law, Joyce Lipp Garfinkel, and numerous friends and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isabell and Max Herzstein, and Helen Holcomb.
