CHARLES HAROLD LLOYD

Harold Lloyd passed away at home on Sunday, July 17,2022 at the age of 86. He had been in declining health for a number of years and was in hospice care. Harold was born at home on May 2,1936, in Marshall, Texas to Harvey Thomas Lloyd and Anna Louise Fyffee Lloyd.
His school years were spent in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Sherman and McKinney, Texas where he graduated from Boyd High School in 1954. After graduating, Harold attended the University of North Texas. At UNT, he was a member of the One O’clock Lab Band and the marching band. He joined the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and served as president his last two years at the university. After graduating UNT in 1958 and passing the LSAT, he went to the University of Texas Law School at Austin.
On June 21, 1958, Harold married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Anne (Beth) Taylor and they moved to Austin where Harold entered law school.
In 1960-1961, he served as chairman of the Moot Court Board of Governors, Quizmaster, and Jurisprudence Scholar. Harold received the Consul Award for student leadership and was named representative for the American Law Students Association in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity, served on the Texas Law Forum staff, and received the Herbert Bolm Memorial Scholarship. He was winner of Best Brief Award in 1961 Hildebrand Moot Court competition.
After graduating law school in 1961, Harold and Beth moved to Houston where he started his law practice with a small personal injury firm McClure and Lucas. Leaving there in 1964, he moved to 711 Fannin and opened the Law offices of Harold Lloyd, Inc. During his career as a Texas trial lawyer, he was board certified in family and personal injury law. He was admitted in 1961 to the Texas Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and in 1967 to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Harold was very active in the Houston Bar Association, the Texas State Bar Association, and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He was a practicing member of the Bar for 50 years. He was one of the original founders of The Houston Lawyer which was introduced in the fall of 1963 and a founding member of Texas Fathers for Equal Rights.
Harold had many interests and hobbies. He attended Memorial Drive United Methodist Church and was a member of the Probers Sunday school class. He was a 33rd degree Mason and a member of Holland Lodge #1. Harold was a hunter, fisherman, an instrument rated airplane pilot, and a black diamond skier. In pursuit of these hobbies, Harold and Beth had homes in Wimberley, Texas on the Blanco River, and Vail, Colorado. Harold, Beth and family traveled widely to many states in the US, Mexico and the Bahamas.
Harold’s love of music continued to follow him throughout his life through his attendance of the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Symphony, the Aspen Summer Music Festival, and the Spoleto Festival USA.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Thomas Lloyd and Anna Louise Fyffe; Betty Louise Lloyd Howell (Sister), Harvey Thomas Lloyd, Jr., (Brother) and Charlie James Thomas (Great Grandson). He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Taylor Lloyd; and daughters: Rebecca Anne Lloyd Thomas, Amanda Catherine Lloyd Bailey (Thomas William), and Jennifer Ruth Lloyd Carney. Surviving Grandchildren David Brian Thomas,
Jr. (Natalie), Austin Ryan Thomas (Dakota), Taylor Catherine Bailey, Thomas William Bailey, III, and Jacob Preston Carney. Surviving Great Grandchildren: Harper, Jack, Bennett, Sawyer, and Maverick Thomas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 22, 2022, at 11:00 AM CST at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, located at 12955 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77079, in the sanctuary with a reception in Friendship Court. The celebration will also be live streamed at the same time www.mdumc.org/ haroldlloyd.
