Kenneth Don Adams, 85, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022 in Houston. Born September 6, 1937 in Stamford, Texas to Lyle and Bessie Adams. Kenneth was the sixth child and first boy in the family with three brothers and a sister to follow.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 56 years, Billie, son Andy, granddaughter Ellie, and siblings Beth, Vern, Peggy, Alfred, Ronnie, and Linda. Kenneth is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Nita, Sylvia, and Wendell.

After high school, Kenneth worked some years in the oilfields around Moab, Utah and other places out west. He then came to Houston and went to work with the Texas Highway Dept. Kenneth loved his job operating heavy equipment outdoors. He met and married Billie in 1966. They bought a house in Oak Forest while Billie finished college. After Billie taught school a few years, they found an acre of land they loved in Cypress so that Kenneth could have a garden. They built a house on the land and moved there in 1974.

During the next few years, Kenneth and Billie enjoyed many trips around the country including three trips to Alaska. They especially enjoyed Colorado, specifically Rocky Mountain National Park, which they visited many times.

In 1979, they adopted their son, Andy, when he was 24 hours old. They continued their travels and Andy came to love their trips, as well.

Kenneth and Billie retired in 1998 and Kenneth’s passion became his yard and garden. He raised magnificent tomatoes, okra, potatoes, cucumbers, and many more. He was especially proud of his beloved okra, and Billie had to learn to cook it many, many ways! Kenneth enjoyed the Astros and the Rockets and hardly ever missed a game. Billie and Kenneth enjoyed reading, with Billie reading to Kenneth and him “reading” his books on tape.

Kenneth and Billie placed membership at Northwest Church of Christ in July of 1979 when Andy was 2 months old. Kenneth enjoyed his family there for many years. Kenneth was a man of strong faith, was easy-going and lovable, but could be stubborn! All kids and dogs loved Kenneth. At family gatherings, Kenneth always found a place to lie on the floor where kids and dogs could climb and play. Kenneth loved his family and always looked forward to the get-togethers. Kenneth was loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed.

Services to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be Tuesday, September 20 at 10:00am for visitation with service to follow at 11:00am. Services will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1101 Antoine, Houston, Texas. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery.
