Marjorie Bray Chapman, 93, passed away on Friday, the 9th September 2022.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Alan J. Chapman. She is survived by her children, Alan J. Chapman (Caroline) and Katherine Powell (Wayne) and grandchild­ren, Lindsay Boston (Kevin), Chris Chapman (Chelsea), Tatiana Kohlmann and Eddie Kohlmann (Rebeca) and great-grandchild­ren, Charles Boston, Henry Boston, James Boston, Charlotte Chapman and Carsyn Chapman. She was one of three children and is survived by siblings Anne Katherine Berling and Hubert E. Bray Jr.

She was a Houston native and a fixture at alumni activities at rice university. Not only was she a 1950 graduate of Rice, she was the daughter of one of the longest serving professors at Rice, Dr. Hubert E. Bray and was married to the longest serving professor Dr. Alan Jesse Chapman.

Marjorie had a significan­t career having been an elementary school teacher for 35+ years. She was always well remembered by former students, administra­tors and colleagues from her school teaching days and well known for her intelligen­ce and patience with her pupils, and excellent teaching skills.

She was also very musical and loved to play piano until her final days. She spent her time with her husband until Dr. Chapman died in 2007 and then devoted herself to her children and grandchild­ren until physical ailments curtailed her activities and ultimately, she succumbed.

She was not only admired and respected by all who knew her but loved by her family and will be sorely missed by all who came in contact with her during her long fruitful and productive life.

The memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 24th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
