Conroe secures homecoming win

- Rob Tate

Conroe rallied for a 28-24 homecoming victory over Willis in District 13-6A action Friday at Moorhead Stadium.

Conroe took the lead for good with a 3-yard touchdown run from quarterback Javarious Hatchett with 4:28 remaining. The Tigers’ defense held tight, sealing the team’s third straight win. Conroe is now 2-1 against its Interstate 45 rivals.

“I’m just so proud of these kids,” Conroe coach Cedric Hardeman said. “They didn’t fold. They believed in each other. They encouraged each other. You’ve got to win on homecoming.”

Willis (1-3, 0-2) dropped its third straight game and was without junior D.J. Lagway, one of the top 2024 quarterbacks in the nation, due to injury.
