MARY HUGH SCOTT

Mary Hugh Arnold Scott was born on February 28th 1933 in Houston, Texas, and passed away on Sept 7th
2022 at her home in Puako in Kamuela Hawaii. She was 89.
Great philanthropist and shining light of a personality, Mary Hugh
was the daughter of Agnes Louise Cullen Arnold and Isaac Arnold, granddaughter of Elizabeth MacMurray Arnold and Lawrence Arnold and Lillie Cranz Cullen and Hugh Roy Cullen who all preceded her in death.
Mary Hugh lived a very active life. Married to Dr. Russell Scott Jr. MD., she had four children. Two survive her, Russell Scott III and Joseph Arnold Scott.
Her second daughter Mary Cullen Scott Simmons tragically passed away on June 23, 2001. She left two beautiful granddaughters to love, Hannah Charlotte Simmons Shafer, and Emily Cullen Simmons.
Her first daughter Agnes Louise Scott Wright, passed away on May 30, 2011.
Mary Hugh is survived by all her grandchildren: Andrew Corin Scott, Alexander Ian Wright, Hannah Charlotte Simmons Shafer, Emily Cullen Simmons, Russell Scott IV,
Katrina Cullen Scott, Joseph Braden Scott and Micha Callam Scott the delight of her old age. And of course, her Great Granddaughter Alamia Wright. Her brother Isaac Arnold survives her, having just lost his beloved wife.
Following the example of her grandparents and parents of giving generously to their community, Mrs. Scott donated her time and energy as well as money to many institutions.
While living in Houston, some of these included the Houston Symphony Orchestra, The Museum of Fine
Arts of Houston, The junior League of Houston and her church, St Stephan’s Episcopal Church.
After moving to Aspen Colorado, Mary Hugh has generously supported the Aspen Music Association of Aspen, Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet, Aspen Art Museum, The Aspen Institute, Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, Aspen Historical Society, Response and Planned Parenthood as well as the Aspen Valley Hospital. She is also a member of the Smithsonian Institute, the Archaeological Institute of America, The American anthropological Assoc. and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Mary Hugh loved life and after her children were grown, she wrote two books: The Passion of Being Woman and a book of poetry called Some Midnight Thoughts.
Mary Hugh Arnold Scott, her faith in her lord Jesus strong and sure, was ready to go home to Him.
She was traditional &revolutionary, intellectual & spiritual, a humanist, feminist and generous benefactor.
All her life Mrs. Scott was a devoted Christian, and active in the Episcopal Church.
Services in Hawaii were on Sept 14th.
