The Houston Chronicle’s football writers and columnists make their predictions for the Texans’ Week 3 game against the Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field in Chicago:
TEXANS 19, BEARS 13
Neither of these teams are any good on offense. But the Bears are really bad, which is good news for a Texans defense that has had success in the first two weeks. As long as Davis Mills doesn’t turn the ball over, the Texans should come out of this game with a win.
TEXANS 20, BEARS 13
This is one of the few games where the Texans hold the advantage in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Dameon Pierce will log his first career 100-yard game against the NFL’s worst rush defense. Justin Fields has thrown more interceptions (12) in his career than touchdowns (9). He’ll give Houston extra possessions Davis Mills won’t give away.
TEXANS 17, BEARS 14
I’m picking the Texans to win for the first time this season, so they better not blow it. Chicago is afraid to let Justin Fields throw the ball. Davis Mills and the Texans score a couple touchdowns this time and Lovie Smith improves to 1-1-1 in 2022 in his old city.
TEXANS 17, BEARS 13
The Bears might be able to run the ball, but their weak passing attack opens the door for a Texans road victory.
