Strake Jesuit opens district with rout
Scoring has certainly not been an issue for Strake Jesuit this season.
That trend continued Friday evening at Clay Stadium during a resounding 55-13 homecoming victory over Elsik as both teams opened District 23-6A action.
The win for the Crusaders (2-2, 1-0) was the fifth straight against Elsik (1-3, 0-1). Strake has now outscored the Rams 222-54 since 2018.
Senior receiver Bryce Lanier was the star of the show for Strake with five catches for 137 yards and three total touchdowns. Lanier has started the season with four consecutive 100-yard receiving games, including totals of 136, 188 and 118 over the first three weeks.
“The biggest thing is we executed the game plan,” Strake Jesuit coach Donovan Fikac said. “We knew they had some skill guys and some big guys up front, but we had to do what we’re good at, and that’s just control the tempo of the game, run the ball, throw the ball when we need to and just play hard-nosed defense. We just had to stick to the game plan.”

Atascocita shuts down Kingwood
Atascocita coach Craig Stump told his team this week that starting fast against Kingwood would be important.
He wanted the Eagles to be the aggressors in the District 21-6A opener.
Atascocita, ranked No. 7 in the state in Class 6A, responded with its second shutout of the season during a 56-0 win over the Mustangs (3-1, 0-1) on homecoming night at Turner Stadium.
Atascocita (3-1, 1-0) was led by running back Tory Blaylock, who piled up 129 yards and three touchdowns.
“Coming into the game, we felt like we could move the ball,” Stump said. “That’s what we did. We have been playing well on defense. The kids are playing hard and understanding what the scheme is. The biggest thing is that the defense is flying around.”

Cy-Fair surges past Stratford
Cy-Fair appeared to be in for a long night against Stratford (3-1, 0-1), with early mistakes contributing to a two-touchdown deficit.
But the Bobcats found their offensive stride in the second quarter, using four consecutive scores to help take a 43-31 victory at Tully Stadium.
After a slow start, Trey Owens completed 29 of 46 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns for CyFair (3-1, 1-0). Two of those went to Owen Carter, who led all receivers with 132 yards on 10 receptions.
“We certainly had it circled on the schedule, but there’s several big games in the district,” Cy-Fair coach Jeff Miller said. “We knew this was one of them. This is probably the team most people think will win the district. It was obviously a big game for us.”

Klein Collins stays perfect
No. 24 state-ranked Klein Collins (4-0, 1-0) rolled to a 42-7 victory over Klein Oak (2-1, 0-1) in the District 15-6A opener for both teams.
Klein Collins quarterback Tucker Parks accounted for five touchdowns, and the Tigers’ defense pitched a shutout until late in the fourth quarter.
“Having those bragging rights means a lot to our kids, it means a lot to their kids, and it goes back and forth,” Klein Collins coach Adrian Mitchell said.
