Mr. Michael John Grogan, 84, of Houston, TX, passed away Monday October 3, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Mike was born February 6, 1938, in Hammond, Indiana to Vincent and Margaret Grogan. He spent his childhood growing up in Whiting, Indiana and had fond memories of swimming in Lake Michigan, walking along the train tracks, and, of course, his mother’s incredible baking. Mike graduated from John Carroll University with a B.S. and later received his PhD in physical chemistry from the Illinois Institute of Technology. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Jean Grogan. During his last year of life, he consistently retold the story of when he first saw her. He was stunned by her beauty and continued to be every day after. Mike worked for Shell Oil Company for 32 years before retiring. He attended St. John Vianney Church where he had served as a Eucharistic minister and Catechist. He was an avid golfer and a lover of ice cream. But most of all, Mike enjoyed dinner with friends and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, Josh, whom he called “the big guy,” and David, whom he called “the clever guy.”

Mr. Michael Grogan was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Kay Jefchak. He leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Jean Grogan of Houston, TX; daughter Lesley Thompson and husband Marc of New York, NY; grandsons, Joshua Thompson of Lubbock,

TX, David Thompson of New York, NY; sister Susan Welch and husband Ray of Philadelphia, PA, Judy Just of Newark, DE; and a host of other nephews, nieces, family, and friends.

The Grogan family would like to give special thanks to the Silverado Hospice and Bayou Vista staff who took tremendous care of him in his final days of life.

A visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday October 12, 2022, at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
