Nathalie Ryan Hoyt passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 4, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio, to Burt and Helena Ryan. She received a B.A. from Sweet Briar College in 1972, and later a M.Ed. from the University of Houston.

Nathalie had a lifelong passion for learning and dedicated nearly 30 years working in education. She served her entire career in the Houston Independent School District in a variety of roles, her most recent as a Dean of Instruction at West Briar Middle School. She was unfailingly generous with her time, expertise, mentorship, and friendship.

Fondly known as “Bobo” to her siblings and friends alike, Nathalie created and maintained lasting, lifelong personal relationships. Her genuine popularity was imbued with the spirit of kindness, reliability, fairness, and trustworthiness.

Nathalie loved spending time in Michigan, her attachment deeply rooted in her happy childhood, when her family spent summers on Lake Huron. She also enjoyed horseback riding, an activity at which she excelled and continued throughout college. An accomplished tennis player, Nathalie loved to play and forged many friendships on the court. Anyone who played with her could sense the joy she took from the game. Nathalie’s greatest pleasure in life was her children, whom she loved dearly, as well as her granddaughter. We are grateful for the joy of her company and the lasting legacy she leaves us.

Nathalie was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Mont Hoyt. She is survived by her children; Mont Hoyt Jr., Kathleen

Hoyt, Michael Hoyt (Krystal), and Caroline Lobo (Brian); granddaughter, Elizabeth Lobo; siblings, Carl Ryan (Kay), Kathleen Ryan, Dede Ale (John), Betsy Glenn, and James Ryan; as well as sister in law; Polly Dawson (Rock). She was predeceased by her sister Lynn Ryan Scott and her brother in law Bob Glenn. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy of love, friendship, community, and accomplishment.

The family thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff at Methodist Hospital for their abundance of care, attention, and support. The family also especially recognizes and thanks Nathalie’s personal caregiver, Angela Williams, for her encouragement and companionship over these last several months.

A private memorial service will be held October 14th at Christ Church Cathedral in Houston, followed by an interment in Toledo.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family would be grateful for contributions made to Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Avenue, Houston, Texas, 77002, or to a charity of one’s choice.
