-

Steven Wayne Smith was born October 16, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and passed away peacefully on May 8, 2022.

Steven was father to Stephanie Dawn Smith; father-in-law to Cody Beaman, and grandfather to Teagan Kassidy, and Case Elliot. He was the son of Carolyn Ann Maxwell; Jackie Edward Smith and stepson to Karen Beaman Smith. He was brother to Carly Beaman Smith and Janna Charlton Webber; brother-in-law to David Webber; uncle to Quinn Charlton, and Kate Charlton. His aunts and uncles were Ben Smith, Barbara Maxwell Houston, Richard Maxwell, Joan Maxwell LaMunyon, and Stephen Maxwell. He had so many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Steven attended the University of New Mexico and received an accounting degree from the University of Houston.

After receiving his degree, Steven enlisted in the Army to serve his country during the Gulf War. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division and although he was offered a Military Occupational Specialty with All Source Intelligence, he instead chose to follow his passion and serve as a Culinary Specialist. He became a celebrated baker at Fort Bragg, but his most cherished memories were the times spent in the field serving the troops or communities hit by natural disasters.

After his time in the Army, Steven spent nearly two decades with Reynolds and Reynolds as an accountant and cash manager, before leaving to once again follow a

dream and travel the Southwest.

While traveling, Steven earned his Master of Business Administration, Strategic Degree from University of Houston-Victoria and became a Certified Treasury Professional. During and after Hurricane Harvey he served as the manager for Katy Christian Ministries’ Resale Store.

Steven was a lifelong learner, with a witty sense of humor and a variety of hobbies - music, pets, cooking, camping, hiking, carpentry, canoeing and kayaking, languages, history, and mathematics. However, his greatest love was his daughter, and he was thrilled when his grandchildren were born.

A service will be held on October 14, 2022, at 1:30 pm at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038. Immediately following the service, there will be a private reception at the home of Steven’s sister and brotherin-law.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Steven’s honor be directed to National Public Radio, P.O. Box 791490, Baltimore, MD 21279-1490, or Katy Christian Ministries, 3506 Porter Road, Katy, TX 77493.
