Stafford defense stops Brazosport

- Jack Marrion

On a night the Stafford football team retired the jersey of Houston Texans rookie Jalen Pitre, the Spartans played an appropriate level of clutch defense.

Playing in their own half of the field eight times in as many drives, the Spartans allowed one score and used a late touchdown to beat Brazosport 14-7, Friday at Stafford Municipal Stadium.

Stafford scored late in both halves to take leads, ultimately improving to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in District 12-4A Division I.

“I think we’re playing good,” Stafford quarterback Brayden Batiste said. “Of course we’re going to have those little mistakes that we can fix, but overall I think we’re playing well as a team.”
