Alex Reid Mitchell of Houston, TX passed away peacefully on September 4, 2022 after battling throat cancer for several years. He was born on May 20, 1951 in Olney, TX, the youngest of three children.

Reid attended primary school in Throckmorton, TX before his family moved to nearby Woodson, TX. There he was a member of the Breckenridge Boys Choir in junior high and high school. He attended Woodson High School, playing both varsity football and basketball. In 1969, he enrolled at Lubbock Christian College (now University) and transferred to Texas Tech University in 1971. While at Texas Tech, Reid held several jobs, working for six years at Saint Mary of the Plains Hospital in Lubbock, TX. He received his Bachelor of Arts in 1979. Reid remained a loyal fan of Texas Tech University for the remainder of his life. During his years in college, Reid developed a lifelong love of reading (later becoming a member of Inprint), film, music, and the performing arts, especially opera.

In 1980 Reid moved to Houston, TX and began working at Baja Sam’s. He later worked for Lorraine Enterprises, Inc. and then Charles Armstrong Investments, Inc.

Reid met his lifelong partner and husband, Clint Willour, in 1980. They were deeply dedicated to one another and touched many lives during their four decades together. They married in 2015, the year the Supreme Court ruled in favor of same sex marriage. Frequently described as consummate gentlemen, both Reid and Clint were generous, charming, and wickedly funny.

Reid was proud to be an active member of the Friends of Bill W. at the Cathedral Group for the past nine years. He was a constant source of inspiration and service to the group and will be missed by those he helped.

He excelled at being an uncle and considered it to be one of his most important roles in life. His proudest achievements were his successful relationship/marriage and his sobriety.
