HAROLD ROGERS

11/04/1929 - 11/03/2022

-

Harold DeForrest Rogers, age 93, has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness. He died peacefully in his home in Houston, Texas on November 3, 2022.

Harold was born in Wellington, Kansas on April 19, 1929, to parents, Forrest M. Rogers and Josephine Holman Rogers. Harold met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dot)

Hyndman, upon returning to Wellington in 1949 after two years of military service at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He and Dot were married on August 30, 1952 and recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

He was always proud of his basketball exploits. While at Wellington High School, he and his twin brother, Gerald, led the team to the 1947 State

Championship in Kansas. He then played for the legendary Hank Iba at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) where he appeared in the NCAA Final Four in 1951 and, much to his chagrin, missed a

second Final Four his senior year in 1953 by losing in the regional finals to rival Kansas University.

Harold graduated with an LLM from Denver University in 1956 and took a job with the Internal Revenue Service in Richmond, Virginia. Shortly thereafter, in 1957, he was fortunate to obtain an assignment to work in the Chief Counsel’s Office of the Internal Revenue Service in Dallas, Texas. In Dallas, he worked alongside numerous other eager, young lawyers and learned how to handle federal tax controversies in both Tax Court and Federal District Court.

In 1963, Harold accepted an offer to become a partner at Eggers, Sherrill & Pace in Wichita Falls, Texas. He then practiced law in Wichita Falls for the next 53 years, including 37 years as a solo practitioner. He handled numerous federal tax cases on behalf of taxpayers against the Internal Revenue Service and, in later years, became a well-respected trusts and estate lawyer. He was a unique lawyer who always put clients first, and his clients returned his loyalty with many years of repeat business.

To be closer to their children, Harold and Dot moved to Houston, Texas in 2016 where they have found a wonderful and welcoming community at Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor.

Harold has been a devoted follower of Jesus Christ from a very young age. In Wichita Falls, where he spent almost all of his adult life, he was an active member of Grace Church of Wichita Falls.

Harold is preceded in death by his sister, Janice Rogers Cobb, and by his brother, Gerald Ivan Rogers. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Dot) Hyndman Rogers; by his daughter,

Jane Rogers Knowlton, her husband, Henry Kevin Knowlton, and their children, Paul Rogers Knowlton and Sarah Jane Knowlton, both of Houston, Texas; by his son Michael Forrest Rogers, his wife, Janell Brammer Rogers, and their children, William DeForrest Rogers (and wife, Frances Ainsworth Rogers) of Houston, Texas and Charles Milton Rogers (and fiancé, Lia Cooley) of Arlington, Virginia; and by his brother, Mervin Holman Rogers, of Goleta, California. His grandchildren were very precious to Harold.

A graveside service will be held for Harold at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Drive. If attending, feel free to wear your outdoor shoes.
