HOUSTON DOAN SHOCKLEY

07/27/1958 - 11/07/2022

-

Doan, age 64, passed away at MD Anderson Cancer Center on November 7, 2022 with his wife, Jana, by his side. He went peacefully knowing how much he was loved and that the Astros had won the World Series. A true Texan, Doan’s life revolved around family, faith, food, and football.

He had a servant’s heart and was on the Associate Vestry of St. John the Divine in Houston and the Vestry of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York and the University of Houston, he will be remembered for bringing people together around the table and his always colorful chef pants. Doan was a lifelong Aggie fan after spending “three freshman years” at Texas A&M in College Station before joining the Navy. He could be found clapping loudly for the Cowboys as games played in the kitchen in the fall. His greatest joy in life came from being a father and husband. He proudly served as Homeroom Dad for many years at the Fay School in Houston and spent his summers in the hill country at Camp Stewart with his son.

He would want to thank the talented team at MD Anderson, his selfless stem cell donor who gave us the gift of time, his friends, family, and the countless prayer warriors across the country.

Doan is preceded in death by his father, Dorman Shockley, and mother, Shirley Shockley. He is survived by his wife, Jana Stutts Shockley, their children, Abbey Renée Shockley and Houston Doan Shockley, Jr., and his sister, Renée Davis.

After the lake is restocked, the grass is cut, and the horseshoe pit reestablished, there will be a Celebration of Life at Woodlake. If you know… you know.
