DR. RONALD “KENT” STOBAUGH

Dr. Ronald “Kent” Stobaugh, 80, of Houston, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4, 2022. He was surrounded by his family, who loved him dearly. Kent is survived by his wife, Nancy Colglazier Stobaugh; his four children: his son, Christopher, and his wife, Heather; his son, Timothy, and his wife, Jennifer; his son, Matthew; and his daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Michael Ray; and his grandchildren: Emery, Haylie, Aiden, Delia, Olivia, and Eliza. He also is survived by his brother, Phillip Stobaugh and his wife, Sally, and their children, Joe and Chelsea; and his brother-in-law, David D. Peden, Jr. and his wife, Tish, and nephew and niece, David and Nancy.

Kent was born to Connor and Vivian Stobaugh on Oct. 8, 1942, in Austin, Texas. He attended The University of Texas, where he received both undergraduate and graduate degrees and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Kent rarely missed a chance to cheer on his beloved Longhorns.

Kent continued his education in Houston, receiving his D.D.S. at the U.T. Dental Branch and completing his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He went on to have a very successful private practice, as president of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of Houston for 40 years, and was a leader and pillar in his profession, so much so that Kent became known as “WFOMS” – World Famous Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Kent served as President of both the Texas and Houston Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and he served as a director on numerous boards. Upon retiring from practice, Kent enjoyed his time as an Associate Clinical Professor at U.T. Dental School in Houston. The Texas Dental Association just recently recognized him for belonging to organized dentistry for 50 years with the prestigious 50-Year Award.

Kent made both Houston and Rockport his homes with his wife, Nancy, and he was lovingly cared for in his last months by his family. Kent delighted in hosting his four children and numerous grandchildren at his home in Key Allegro, even with all the chaos and noise. He was affectionately called “Pong Pong” by his grandchildren, despite initially not wanting that nickname. Even so, he came to love being known as our Pong Pong.

Kent lived a full life. He climbed Mount Rainier in Washington; he travelled extensively, including to Abu Dhabi to visit his daughter’s family; he attended the Academy Awards; and on a slow day, he loved fishing, hunting, sailing, and golfing. He was a lifetime committee member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, International Committee. Our Pong Pong will be missed.

Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family from eleven o’clock in the morning until two o’clock in the afternoon with a memorial service beginning at half past eleven o’clock on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at BradshawCarter Memorial & Funeral Services, 1734 West Alabama Street in Houston.
