Elections probe

-

Regarding “Gov. Abbott calls for investigation into Harris County elections as GOP files lawsuit against Tatum,” (Nov. 14): In announcing his call for an investigation into Harris County’s election practices, Gov.

Greg Abbott said he wants the secretary of state, attorney general and Texas Rangers to initiate probes. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton investigating elections? Really?

Paxton couldn’t serve on any jury in Texas because he has been indicted for securities fraud. He’s also being investigated by the FBI for improprieties in the attorney general’s office. And he spoke at the “Save America” rally on Jan. 6, helping incite the insurrection that attempted to overthrow an election. He should be charged for treason for trying to overthrow the government.

Is Paxton really somebody who can be trusted to investigate “allegations of improprieties in the way that the 2022 elections were conducted in Harris County”?

Don Haney, Richmond I was elated when I read Tuesday’s headline: “Abbott calls for probes of elections.” I thought, it’s about time someone investigated how Ken Paxton keeps getting elected. Then I read the article. What a letdown.

The article says the Harris County probe will look at whether precinct voting locations were adequately supplied with the paper ballots needed to properly record votes. That’s a good start, but is that all the probe will look at? There are lots more ways to cheat in an election. Is the probe going to look at registration rolls versus ballots cast? Proper identification and dates on mail-in votes? Whether the precinct judges made sure no one stuffed in a bunch of votes after the precincts should have closed? Whether registered voters were actually alive when their votes were dated? Whether votes were harvested illegally? C’mon man! If you are gonna probe, at least do a thorough job of it. Harris County voters deserve the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so that we can put to rest any further “the election was stolen” rhetoric. Steve Koetting, Houston
