Joyce Kay Maddox, beloved Mother and Grandmothe­r, passed away in Weatherfor­d, TX on October 23, 2022 at the age of 78. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Milby High School in Houston in 1961. Joyce graduated as a dental hygienist from University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston in 1963. It was there she met Dr. Paul Stamatis, the father of her children. She later went on to become a Certified Public Accountant, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston Downtown, attaining her Bachelors of Science in Business and Commerce in 1991.

She was a devout Christian, and an active member of her community wherever she lived. Passionate about politics, she was a member of the Republican Women’s Club of Houston, and served as an election judge in the Klein and Tomball districts for several years. As a member of Bammel Road Church of Christ in Houston, she conceived of and founded Northland Christian School. When she was living at Westwood Shores in Trinity, she organized the property owners associatio­n to self manage the clubhouse restaurant. Even when her health had declined, she organized the assisted living community residents to meet with management to voice their concerns and desires.

Joyce had a strong work ethic which she engendered in her children. As a dental hygienist she worked in private practice and for the United States Army, at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. She attained her real estate license and worked at Henry S. Miller in Houston. As an accountant, she was employed by Sonsub, Inc. of Houston and was an important part of the team at Joyce was always up for the next adventure. She liked to travel and greatly enjoyed games of all kinds, especially bridge. Family was very meaningful to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Maurine Maddox, and brothers, Alan and Phillip Frank Maddox, as well as former husbands Paul Stamatis and Aubrey Brown. Joyce is survived by her brothers Kenneth, Mark, Wilson, Richard, and sister Heidi; her daughter Paula Stamatis and son-in-law Jack Donovan; son Paul Stamatis, Jr. and daughter-in-law Brenda Wainscott; daughter Karen Metzler and son-in-law Jeff Metzler; son Stephen Stamatis and daughter-in-law Allison Stamatis; her grandchild­ren Fern Stamatis, Cora Stamatis, Hazel Stamatis, Lillian Stamatis, Noah Metzler, Maycie Metzler, Meridythe Metzler, Madison Metzler, Brandon Metzler, Daniel Metzler and his wife Kelly, Ruby Stamatis, Rex Stamatis, Drake Stamatis, Lucas Stamatis, Zachary Donovan and his wife Kat; her great-grandson Liam Donovan; and Marley, a Bichon Frise, her cherished constant companion. Joyce will be keenly missed. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on November

25, 2022 at the Group Hall of Lake Mineral Wells State Park; all are invited to attend.
