Eight things to watch for Thanksgivi­ng, including a parade in downtown Houston and plenty of football

Whether you’re waiting for the turkey to finish cooking or lunch already made you sleepy, sitting around the television on Thanksgivi­ng is a must. Here are some movies and TV shows to queue up for Turkey Day.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgivi­ng

This 30-minute animated classic follows the Turkey Day traditions and festivitie­s of Charlie Brown and the Peanuts crew. Watch on Apple TV+ website or app, and if you’re new to the platform and don’t yet have a subscripti­on, you can get a seven-day free trial to watch.

H-E-B Thanksgivi­ng Day Parade

After a two-year hiatus, Houston’s Thanksgivi­ng Day Parade will take place Thanksgivi­ng Day at 9 a.m.

Located in the heart of downtown Houston, this event is one of the oldest Thanksgivi­ng Day parades in the country. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will lead the iconic Tom Turkey float as the grand marshal along with Mayor Sylvester Turner and Dr. Peter Hotez.

Great Day Houston’s Deborah Duncan and KHOU’s Ron Treviño will emcee the parade. You can watch the parade live on KHOU 11.

Thanksgivi­ng Day NFL games

Sports fan? Here are the three exciting NFL matchups this Thanksgivi­ng.

Starting it off at 11:30 a.m., the Buffalo Bills head to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions; watch on CBS TV channel. Then at 3:30 p.m., the New York Giants will face Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys in a heated NFC East rivalry; watch on Fox Channel. And at 7:20 p.m. the New England Patriots will go head-to-head with the Minnesota Vikings in a special Thanksgivi­ng edition of Sunday Night Football on NBC and Peacock. Live coverage begins at 6 p.m. with “Football Night in America.”

‘Funny People’

In this dark comedy, Adam Sandler plays a retired stand-up comedian turned actor who is diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. In one of the funniest scenes, Sandler’s character gives a hilarious toast at the Thanksgivi­ng dinner table. Available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

‘Friends’

Throughout its 10 seasons, “Friends” celebrated the holiday with viewers, blessing us with a memorable Thanksgivi­ng Day episode each year, such as the one where Monica put the turkey on her head, the one with all the flashbacks and the one where they play football together. Streaming on HBO Max.

‘Atlanta’

Donald Glover’s hit show “Atlanta” airs its season 4 finale titled “It Was All A Dream.”

This is the fourth and final season of this beloved television series that chronicles the story of music manager Earnest “Earn” Marks and rapper Paper Boi as they make a name for themselves in the business. Streaming on Hulu.

‘Mo’

Co-created by comedian Mo Amer, based on his own life, “Mo” explores the world of a Palestinia­n family in Houston who have a pending asylum case and bills to pay. Streaming on Netflix.

‘The White Lotus’

After a successful first season, Mike White’s hit show is back with a new location and cast of characters. Season Two premiered Oct. 30 on HBO Max.
