Texas Republicans

-

Regarding “Time for the Texas GOP to speak up,” (Nov. 18): I rarely agree with the editorial board but I do this time. It is not surprising that the unimpressive Ken Paxton, Sid Miller and Troy Nehls all obediently lined up with Donald Trump.

Our country desperately needs to move away from the divisiveness that Trump inspires. We do need honest disagreement and debate. Ted Cruz sadly seems to have come down with some ambiguity on the side of Trump as well. With Nancy Pelosi out of leadership, the GOP in the House of Representatives has an opportunity to develop a substantive program for the betterment of our country.

I look forward to the Chronicle's coverage of this new development. George B. Mallory Jr., Houston

Mr. Trump, your organization cheated twice on the values of its Manhattan properties: to obtain bank loans, and to avoid taxes. You failed to warn the American public at the start of 2020 that COVID-19 could be transmitted through the air and refused to accept expert advice that masks should be mandatory nationwide, thereby aiding a pandemic that led to the deaths of 1.1 million Americans. You refused to accept the results of one of the most secure elections in history that you lost by 7 million votes in 2020. You fomented an insurrection to stop the peaceful transfer of power. You blatantly attempted to steal the Georgia election by appealing to the secretary of state to produce 11,780 votes in your favor out of thin air. You absconded with hundreds of classified documents that belonged in the National Archives. Then this year, you supported the election of many totally unqualified candidates, nearly all of whom lost. Beyond all this, you have fed us a constant stream of lies and exhibited signs of racism and intolerance of others. No, Mr. Trump, regardless of any positive accomplishments your administration may have achieved during the years you were in office, independents such as myself, and now even many Republicans, are not buying what you're selling.
