NANCY LEE ROGERS

-

Nancy was born in Ft. Worth, Texas. Her parents were Hamilton Rogers,

Sr. and Margaret Dickson Rogers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Hamilton Rogers,

Jr. and is survived by her brothers Pollard Rogers of Ft. Worth and Dick Rogers and his wife Kathleen of Houston, her sister-in-law, Libby Rogers, her nieces June Rogers Chandler and husband Mark and daughter Kathleen, Margaret Rogers and daughters Grace, Anna, and Olivia, and her nephew John Rogers and wife Kate.

Nancy was an excellent student with a special talent for languages. Spanish was her principal interest, and she furthered that education during high school with studies in Monterrey, Mexico and Mexico City. Nancy graduated from the University of Texas with a major in Romance languages. During and after college at U.T. Austin where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, Nancy studied in Spain and France with advanced language courses. All of this led to her eventually teaching Spanish at the

St. John’s School in Houston.

A lover of theater, Nancy had many acting roles at the Stages Repertory Theater in Houston, and she studied art at the Glassell School in Houston and the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. These interests steered her back to U.T. in Austin for an advanced degree in Theater.

While her home was in Austin, Nancy leased an apartment in NYC to develop her theater interest. She wrote and directed some plays; spent time visiting museums, studied modern dance, and taught speech at a local college.

In September of 2014, Nancy was struck down with encephalitis. This led to the final years of her life dependent on others. Fortunately, she had excellent caregivers. Especially the doctors at U.T. in Houston, including Dr. Vineeth John and Dr. Shuyan Bi. Her special personal caregivers, Ms. Noel Lee and Ms. Bettye Sanders were at her side through most all these past 8 years. Nancy’s family will always be grateful to these remarkably resilient, capable, and caring ladies.

There will be a private interment at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church Garden of the Holy Cross Columbarium.

One of Nancy’s special loves during her life was animals and she had many. Should anyone wish to honor her friendship with a remembrance, we know she would be happy if you chose an organization providing animal protection or a charity of your choice.
