ALICE U. SMITH

Our dear mother, Alice U. Smith, passed away October 15, 2022 at the age of 95.

She was a resident of Houston for over 70 years. Alice was born in Mason City, Iowa to Dale and J.C. Underwood in 1927. After her high school graduation in 1945, Alice joined her father and stepmother in Tyler, Texas where she attended Tyler Jr. College. Upon Alice’s graduation from Jr. College she began working for Humble Oil & Refining Co., (Exxon-Mobile), as a receptioni­st and switchboar­d operator. Alice was soon transferre­d to Humble Oil’s Houston office where she worked as an executive secretary until her marriage to Richard H. Smith in 1957.

Alice and Richard were married at Bethany Christian Church where they remained life-long members. A devoted Christian, Alice was a very active member of Bethany, singing in the Church Choir for a number of years, as well as, serving as a Church Elder.

Our mother was happily married to our father for over 54 years. Together, they raised 3 children, Richard Jr., Laura, and Randall and experience­d the joy of grandparen­ting Zachary and Miranda.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, Randall; sisters, Virginia Wright and Carol Underwood.

She is survived by her son, Richard Smith, Jr., (Crystal); daughter, Laura Smith; grandchild­ren, Zachary Smith, and Miranda Smith; grand-dogs; Sneakers and Sierra; sister, Harriett Shepherd; nephew, Dennis Wright.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bethany Christian Church, 3223 Westheimer, Houston, TX 77098 on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm. A reception to follow in the Hall of Friendship.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethany Christian Church, 3223 Westheimer, Houston, Tx. 77098, or to the Star of Hope.

We wish to thank the many caregivers and volunteers at Parkway Place where our Mother was well cared for the last 8 months of her life.
