10/20/1941 - 11/20/2022

-

Carolyn Wright Boyd, 81, of Houston, TX passed away on November 20, 2022, peacefully at her home Villa Carolina surrounded by family and friends.

Carole was born on October 20,1941 in San Angelo, Texas to Merle Queen Rose and Brock Wright. Her family moved to Dallas after WWII where Merle married Howard Floyd Dennis. For the next several years they lived in

San Antonio, Beaumont and finally settled down in the Heights of Houston, TX where she would later attend Reagan High School. Carole went on to Sam Houston

State University to study Business Administration where she was elected to the Homecoming Court and did some modeling. Shortly after college she married her first husband Philip Ernest Davis and moved to Dallas where she worked for Sun Oil, and had her first child, Dain Jeffries Davis. They moved to Houston permanently in 1968, and bought their first house in Tanglewood, a year later her second child Donya Rhea Davis was born. In 1974 Carole married the love of her life, Ronnie Boyd in Athens Greece with a champagne toast and reception at the Acropolis. The family went from 2 to 5, a modern-day Brady Bunch. The history of Greece and the Greek culture were immediately impressed upon the children and Greek dancing, cooking and language lessons were fit into their schedules. Carole assisted her husband with his placement business (Ronnie Boyd & Associates) and started her own division placing technical trainers and teachers in Saudi Arabia for over 25 years.

Carole and Ronnie travelled the world and went where the history books they read took them. They wove their passion for hunting into their travels, from big game in South Africa to driven partridge shoots in Spain to dove hunting all over Mexico and Argentina. Many of their hunts were expertly organized by Carole’s dear friend Jeri Booth. Their adventures included surviving a plane crash coming back from one of their epic hunts in Mexico.

Carole had a love of cooking and pursued her passion at the Cordon Bleu in London one summer and helped co-author the Museum of

Fine Arts cookbook with her friend and mentor Virginia Elverson. Carole was on the Board of AIWF (American Institute of Wine & Food) and held cooking classes in her kitchen at home for some of the neighborhood moms. The importance of sitting down as a family to a home cooked meal became the center of togetherness.

Faith also played a big part in Carole’s life, she was a dedicated member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church where she and Ronnie attended Service every Sunday as well as serving on several committees. Carole was also an active member of the Board of Directors of The Open Door Mission here in Houston for many years.

Carole lived for her family and made sure all the children had a solid foundation of education, faith, manners, and respect for one another. After losing her husband of 40 years in 2013, she spent time travelling to see the grandchildren that were located from Singapore to Washington, DC, Austin, and Atlanta. She loved her friends, many of whom she had known for 50+ years and continued to entertain, travel, and celebrate life up until the very end. Carole’s daughter Donya and her two children were lucky to have her as their “roommate” when Covid hit and Carole’s battle with cancer began. She fought Stage IV lung cancer for almost 3 years, yet never once complained. One would always find Carole impeccably dressed from head to toe and her smile lit up any room she entered. Her beauty, laughter and sharp wit will be missed by all that knew her.

Carole was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Dean Boyd of Breckenridge, Texas; her Uncle Dennis Ralph Rose of Greenville Texas, her Aunt Agnes Naomi Rose of Bowie, Texas; her Mother Merle Queen Rose of

Greenville, TX; her Stepfather Howard Floyd Dennis of Leesville, LA; her son Dain Jeffries Davis of Dallas, TX and her grandson Nils Dean Berggren of Singapore.

Carole is survived by her daughter Donya Rhea Davis of Houston, TX; Sister Denise Millstid and husband Frank Millstid of Bellville, TX; Cousin James Dennis Rose and wife Kathy Lynn Rose of Ft. Worth, TX; Stepson Ronald Dean Boyd, Jr. and wife Valerie Smith Boyd of Washington, DC; Stepdaughter Lesli Berggren Boyd of Washington, DC; Stepson

Lee Boyd; Grandchildren Alexandra Jones, Austin Jones, Claire Berggren, Scarlett Boyd, Lila Boyd, Carter Boyd, Cameron Boyd, niece Rachel Gichert and nephew Franklin Millstid.

A Memorial Service will be held January 14th, 2023 at 10:00AM at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church at 3471 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX in the main Sanctuary with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
