Marylin “Lynn” Squires was born in Palestine, Texas, on June 10, 1928, to Billie and Thomas Hicks Duke and passed away on November 30, 2022. Lynn grew up in East Texas and attended the University of Arkansas briefly and then graduated from North Texas State University. After graduation she worked for Humble Oil and Refining in New London, Texas, where she met and fell in love with Ervin William Squires. They were married in 1950. Erv was a widower with two children, Bill and Suzi, who were 5 and 3 when Lynn and Erv married. Lynn and Erv had two more children, Margie and David. Lynn was a homemaker raising four children until the youngest was in high school. At that time, she updated her teaching credential­s at the University of Houston and taught elementary school for 20 years, primarily at Parker Elementary. After Lynn and Erv retired, they enjoyed traveling and spending time at their lake house in Livingston, Texas. Lynn was an excellent bridge player. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Lynn and Erv raised their family in Bellaire, Texas, and were members of Bethany United Methodist Church for almost 37 years. They moved to Kingwood in 1988 and joined Kingwood United Methodist Church. In 2012, they moved to West University Place and became members of West University Baptist Church. Lynn was a loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r.

Lynn was predecease­d by her husband, mother, father, stepfather Edwin Tomlin, and her brothers James Tomlin, Thomas Hicks Duke, Jr., and Albert Benjamin Duke. She is survived by her sisters Helen Brumley (Santa Fe, NM), Carolyn Todd and Kathleen Fleming (Lindale, Texas).

She is also survived by her children: David Squires and wife Anke, Margie Fields and husband Charles, Suzi McFarling, and Bill Squires and wife Cathy. She is also survived by 12 grandchild­ren and 30 great grandchild­ren. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Belmont Village with special thanks to Delia Retledge and her caregivers at the Tradition with special thanks to Natasha Lee. A private graveside service for the family will be held on Tuesday, December 6.
