Father of rapper killed in Houston linked to Memphis artist’s slaying
The father of aspiring rapper Lotta Cash Desto, who on Sept. 24 was shot and killed in Houston, has been arrested and accused of orchestrating the killing of rapper Young Dolph in 2021 at a bakery in Memphis.
Hernandez Govan is one of three men charged in connection with the shooting death of Young Dolph, whose real name is Adolph Thornton Jr., according to Shelby County Court Records. He has been indicted on murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection to the death.
The Houston Police Department referred all questions about the investigation into Lotta Cash Desto’s death to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Representatives of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office declined to say whether or not the Memphis slaying and Lotta Cash Desto’s death were thought to be connected. And officials with the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office declined comment on the investigation.
Prosecutors have not disclosed a motive in the Shelby County slaying, according to the Associated Press.
Govan is also the father of Lotta Cash Desto, whose real name is Destinee Govan, 25. She was shot and killed Sept. 24 in the 5500 block of Richmond Avenue in Houston.
Hernandez Govan in social media posts made frequent mention of his daughter, including apologizing to her after her death for his lifestyle.
“I think I cursed U #Destinee with my #Lifestyle I #Apologize baby!” he wrote on Facebook on Oct. 26.
A search of Shelby County District Court records produces more than 46 criminal cases that have been brought against the elder Govan.
He is one of several men who have been charged in the Nov. 17, 2021, slaying of Young Dolph, whose killing during the day shocked the entertainment world, according to the Associated Press. Two men allegedly exited a Mercedes-Benz and began shooting into a bakery.
Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy has accused Hernandez Gomez of soliciting and putting the killing into motion, according to the Associated Press.
Christian Isaiah Williams, 24, has been charged in connection to Destinee Govan’s death, according to Harris County District Court records.
Govan, who was driving, and a second passenger were behind a dark-colored, four-door vehicle at a red light near the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Chimney Rock Road when two men got out of the car and began firing at the women.
The second passenger told police Govan returned fire, hitting Williams, before she was shot in the head.
Govan was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. The other woman was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Williams was found in a parking lot across the street, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
He was transported to the hospital, where he was later charged.
Williams is from Alexandria, La. Court documents state he has been arrested in connection to crimes in the past, including murder, felon in possession of a weapon and carnal knowledge of a minor.
