Barbara Dillane Cowan passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 27, 2022, in Houston, Texas. She was born in Toronto May 29, 1931. Barbara attended high school at Loretto Abbey, a girls’ school in Toronto. She went on to attend University of Toronto, St. Michael’s College, and received a BA degree in Liberal Arts in 1953 and a degree in Social Work from the University of Ottawa. In 1957 she married Jack Cowan, a petroleum/geological engineer who worked for Mobil Oil and Amoco Internatio­nal. They had four children. Barbara earned a Master of Divinity at Loyola University in Chicago and a Doctorate degree in Pastoral Counseling in 1989 from the Notre Dame Graduate Theologica­l Foundation. Barbara was a long-time member of Live Oak Friends Meeting (Quakers). Barbara was predecease­d by her parents, Eddy and Grace, brother Teddy, sisters Lorraine, Eileen, and Patricia. She is survived by husband Jack, children, Mark (Patti), Graeme (Carla), Allison and Malcolm; granddaugh­ters Carrie (Evan) and Drew.

In addition, she has several nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Canada and their extended families. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the Caring Hearts care givers who took care of our mother. A memorial meeting will be held on December 16, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Live Oak Friends Meeting House located at 1318 W. 26th Street Houston, Tx, 77008. Barbara specifical­ly asked that no flowers or charitable contributi­ons be made on her behalf.
