Davis helps Memphis surge past Auburn

ATLANTA — Kendric Davis scored a seasonhigh 27 points, DeAndre Williams added 16 points and 11 rebounds and Memphis ended 11thranked Auburn's seasonopen­ing eight-game win streak 82-73 Saturday night.

Davis' jumper beat the shot clock buzzer to make it 60-50 with 11:18 remaining, and Memphis (8-2) was never threatened again. The closest Auburn (8-1) got was an eight-point deficit on K.D. Johnson's free throws with 3:04 left in the game.

Wendell Green Jr. and Johnson each finished with 14 points and Chris Moore had 12 for Auburn (8-1), which began the day as one of 10 unbeaten teams left in the nation.

Fletcher Loyer scored a season-high 22 points and Braden Smith made four free throws in the last 28 seconds of overtime to give the Boilermake­rs a hard-earned road victory over the Cornhusker­s.

Purdue (10-0, 2-0 Big Ten) has won two straight to open conference play for the first time since 2017-18.

Zach Edey had 11 points and 17 rebounds.

NO. 9 ARKANSAS 88 OKLAHOMA 78

Ricky Council IV scored 26 points and Nick Smith Jr. had 21 in the Razorbacks' victory over the Sooners in Tulsa, Okla.

Arkansas, which improved to 9-1 on the season, led by three at the break and gradually pulled away from Oklahoma throughout the second half.

NO. 10 ARIZONA 89 NO. 14 INDIANA 75

Azuolas Tubelis scored 21 points and the Wildcats defeated the Hoosiers in the Vegas Clash.

The Wildcats (8-1) held off Indiana's surge after their lead was trimmed to 59-56 on consecutiv­e 3-pointers by the Hoosiers midway through the second half. Arizona responded with three straight 3s to build its cushion back to double digits.

PENN STATE 74 NO. 17 ILLINOIS 59

Andrew Funk and Myles Dread combined for 11 3-pointers to give the Nittany Lions a road win over the Illini.

Funk and Jalen Pickett led all scorers with 20 points each as Penn State (7-3, 1-1 Big Ten) notched its first road Big Ten win against a top-20 team since beating No. 16 Michigan State in 2020.

Rudi Williams scored 26 points and the Cougars handed the Bluejays their fourth straight loss, in the Jack Jones Hoopfest in Las Vegas

The Cougars (6-5) ended up with five players in double figures as they ended a two-game skid.

Aidan Mahaney scored 20 points, Alex Ducas added 17 and the Gaels knocked off the Aztecs at the Jerry Colangelo Classic in Phoenix.

Saint Mary's hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to knock off the ranked Aztecs a week after playing a close game again top-ranked Houston.

NO. 24 TCU 83, SMU 75

Mike Miles Jr. returned to the lineup with 18 points and the Horned Frogs extended their winning streak to six games with a win over the Mustangs in Fort Worth.

Miles was one of five players scoring in double figures for the Horned Frogs (8-1).

UT-RIO GRANDE VALLEY 95 HOUSTON CHRISTIAN 82

Will Johnston scored a game-high 29 points and the Vaqueros snapped the Huskies' two-game winning streak at Sharp Gymnasium.

Johnston, who hit only six field goals, did much of his damage from the line, hitting 12 of 13 free throws. He also tallied five rebounds.

Brycen Long hit six three pointers as part of a team-best 26 points for Houston Christian (3-8), while Bonke Maring added 18 points and six rebounds.

WOMEN

NO. 5 NOTRE DAME 108 MERRIMACK 44

Olivia Miles became the first Fighting Irish player with three career triple-doubles in overwhelmi­ng the Warriors at home.

Miles finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 82 NO. 24 KANSAS STATE 78

Myah Selland scored nine of her 20 points in the fourth quarter and the Jackrabbit­s held off the Wildcats in Kansas City for third win over a ranked team this season.

South Dakota State (6-4) never trailed after the first quarter and had a 71-57 lead when Madysen Vlastuin drained a 3-pointer with seven minutes to go.

HOUSTON CHRISTIAN 68 ST. THOMAS 43

Julija Vujakovic scored 18 points after a twogame absence and the Huskies won their second straight with a win over the crosstown Celts at Sharp Gymnasium.

HCU (5-4) led wire to wire in the game, starting on a 15-6 run, fueled by three pointers from Vijakovic and Enya Maguire, and never let up.

N'Denasija Collins had 11 points at 6 rebounds.
