Pitts’ column was a litmus test for decency
Regarding “Pitts: Good night, everybody!” (Dec. 14): Leonard Pitts offered humane, rational and informative insight on many of the issues that so often divide Americans. While any opinion may provoke a negative response from somebody, Pitts was never off base in his columns and more often than not provided a uniquely incisive perspective on critical issues. Those who aspire to win a lifetime achievement award from QAnon or who deny that race is still an issue in America could always find something to gripe about. His column was a litmus test for decency that some people failed. He will be missed.

Leonard Pitts “RIP” — that is, “Retire in Peace,” because, despite having weekly deadlines, he’ll have lots to do in his “retirement.”
I shall miss his column from the Miami Herald through the Houston Chronicle. I looked forward to it every week and often saved it for the insightful, challenging, erudite, straightforward — you name it — content.
Thank you, Leonard Pitts for all you have given me (and us). All good wishes to you.

I read with sadness the final column by Leonard Pitts. While happy for him for his retirement, I will miss his column terribly. He is one columnist whose opinions I wholeheartedly agree with, who writes in a clear and effective style, who has provoked more letters to the editor from me than from other issues. Bravo to one of my “hero” writers; enjoy your retirement!

I understand that Mr. Pitts is retiring from his regular column.
How about replacing him with another intelligent Black man with a different perspective, namely Jason Riley, who appears in the Wall Street Journal?
