CARLA BEER

Carla Michelle Beer was a gentle mother, feisty sister, wild daughter and caring friend. She passed away on June 8, 2022 at the age of 71, after a 10 year battle with dementia.

Carla was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Lee and Caryll Beer on February 5, 1951. She shared life with her younger brothers, Kevin Heywood Beer and Brett David Beer (deceased 2005). Carla grew up in Houston, Texas, attending Johnston Jr. High and Westbury Senior High School, graduating year of 1969. As a free spirited teenager, she enjoyed parties, straightening her hair, and surfing with friends in Galveston and Hawaii. She loved the beach and always had a collection of shells displayed on her window sills. After graduating high school, Carla attended Steven F. Austin Teachers College for a few years. She married her high school boyfriend, Danny Cardin, and had two children, Kelly Cardin and Taryn Cardin Lemery. They moved to Austin in the early 80’s where she lived for over 25 years. Carla loved the energy and creativity of Austin during those early days, she especially enjoyed the live music festivals, the tex-mex food and margaritas. Carla was a people person and never met a stranger. Standing in line at the grocery store was often a favorite spot for her to meet new friends and brighten someone’s day. She showed her children how to be kind, compassionate and root for the underdog. As a mother, she always played in the rain and let her children express themselves on their bedroom walls. She had a love of gardening, swimming, and taking long walks in her neighborhood.

Carla was preceded in death by her mother Jesse Lee Beer, father Caryll Beer and brother, Brett Beer. Carla is survived by her children Kelly Christine Cardin (and wife Ashlea Cardin), Taryn Cardin Lemery (and husband Jay Lemery), brother Kevin Beer (partner Greg Cason). Carla also had five grandchildren: Major, Elsa, Delany, Maeve and Zada. We promised her we would enjoy life, but there will be no casserole.
