Baylor downs Kansas, stays undefeated in Big 12

Sarah Andrews scored 27 points, Darianna Littlepage-Buggs and Caitlin Bickle had double-doubles, and No. 23 Baylor defeated No. 21 Kansas 75-62 on Saturday night.

Littlepage-Buggs had 17 points and 13 rebounds, Bickle had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Ja'Mee Asbury scored 11 for the Bears (12-3, 3-0 Big 12).

Andrews, who scored a career-high 30 in a win over Oklahoma earlier in the week, scored 14 points in the third quarter, going 5-for-5 from the field with two 3-pointers and added a pair of free throws.

Kansas was within three points late in the third quarter after Zakiyah Franklin scored on the fast break and followed it up with a 3-pointer. Baylor scored the last seven points of the quarter, however, and led

56-47 heading to the fourth.

Baylor went up by 12 in the fourth quarter, but the lead was down to 65-61 with 2:43 remaining after Franklin hit a jumper for the Jayhawks. Kansas would not make another field goal, missing five in a row to finish the game. Baylor put the game away with a layup by Andrews, a three-point play by Asberry, and 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute.

Wyvette Montgomery led Kansas (12-2, 2-1) with 19 points. Holly Kersgieter and Chandler Prater scored 11 points each.

Baylor has won four straight.

The host Terrapins (13-3, 4-1 Big Ten) broke a 40-40 halftime tie with a 30-11 third quarter, then held off a late rally by the Spartans (10-6, 2-3). Diamond Miller led Maryland with 25 points.

Caitlin Clark, held to two points for almost 15 minutes, scored 28 for the visiting Hawkeyes (12-4, 4-1 Big Ten).

Leigha Brown had 20 points for the Wolverines (13-3, 3-2).

Brynna Maxwell scored 17 points to lead a balanced attack as the host Bulldogs (16-2, 6-0 West Coast Conference) won their ninth straight. Tess Heal scored 14 points for the Broncos (10-8, 1-4).

ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 84 TEXAS SOUTHERN 71

Freshman Micah Gray’s career-high 41 points wasn’t enough for the visiting Tigers (0-14, 0-3 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) to earn their first victory of the season.

OKLAHOMA STATE 86 TEXAS 82

The host Longhorns (11-5, 2-1 Big 12) fell behind 49-41 at halftime. Pearland product DeYona Gaston led Texas with 22 points.

TEXAS TECH 78, TCU 70

The visiting Red Raiders (13-3, 1-2 Big 12) won their first conference game of the season. Bre’Amber Scott led Texas Tech with 20 points. Tomi Taiwo led the Horned Frogs with 33 points.

WESTERN KENTUCKY 77 UTSA 69

In Bowling Green, Ky., the Roadrunner­s (3-10, 1-3 Conference USA) took a 42-34 lead at halftime but lost their fifth in six games. Kyra White led UTSA with 18 points.

TEXAS A&M CC 65 UIW 58

In San Antonio, Destiny Terrell scored 18 points for the Cardinals (5-8, 0-3 Southland), who lost back-to-back games against the Islanders.

LOUISIANA 71 TEXAS STATE 51

Kennedy Taylor scored 13 points to lead the host Bobcats (10-5, 2-2 Sun Belt).
