12/07/1938 - 12/28/2022

-

Carol Jean Swofford passed peacefully, at home surrounded by family, on December

28, 2022 at the age of 84 in League City, Texas after a 5 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Carol was born to Charles and Hetty Wacker, in East St. Louis, Illinois, on December 7, 1938. Hers was a life lived to its fullest, and an example to us all of grace, humility, and joy. She never met a stranger and always had friendly words for anyone who crossed her path. She created a home that was warm and welcoming and the thing she loved the most was having family near, especially around the holidays. She had a way of making every family gathering a special occasion.

The Swofford family moved from Norwalk, Connecticut to Nassau Bay, Texas in 1967 where they lived for 55 years and raised their family, with a 10 year stint living in Jubail, Saudi Arabia from 1983-1987 and again from 1989 – 1995. Carol was active in the community and was involved in volunteer work throughout her life (Clear Lake United Methodist Church, The Girl Scouts, Nassau Bay Parks and Recreation, The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research, Houston Zoo docent, Meals on Wheels, Communities in Schools, Bay Area Turning Point, to name a few). Carol loved sports. Growing up she played basketball, competed in ice skating, and was a drum majorette and a cheerleader. As an adult, she played softball, and also played in bowling leagues while in

Saudi Arabia. She loved to travel both with family and with dear friends like family (Keith and Pat McClung,

Bill and Colleen Seyl, Charlie and Kathy Harlan, and Bill and Charlotte Larson, and families) taking many trips throughout the United States and all over the world, especially during their time living overseas. Carol also loved animals and her home was never without a pet, albeit, dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, chickens, or birds.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hetty Wacker; her brothers, Ronald Wacker and Thomas Wacker. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ronald J. Swofford; daughter Kathleen Spigener and husband Tom; son Steven Swofford and partner Jackson Seamans; son Robert Swofford and wife Ebon; daughter Diane Wege and husband Mark; “adopted” sons Thu Ngo and wife Julie, and Phong Ngo and wife Katy; grandchildren, Christopher Ivanovskis, Daniel Ivanovskis, Natalie Rhea Ivanovskis, Jeanna Spigener, Addison Swofford and Braden Swofford; and great grandchildren Kate and Sadie Ivanovskis; all her nieces and nephews; and by her beloved dog Zoey.

Carol’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 21st at 2:00 in the afternoon, in the sanctuary of Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 16335 El Camino Real, Houston, TX 77062. Family and friends are cordially invited to a reception to follow from 3:30 to 5:00 at Frenchie’s Villa Capri (Casa Mia

Banquet Facility) 3713 Nasa Parkway, Seabrook, 77586.

Gifts in Carol’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association and Bay Area Turning Point
