John Anthony (Tony)

Hale passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 9, 2023, at the age of 85. We lost a gentleman and humorist.

Tony was born in Victoria Hospital in Miami, Florida on August 27, 1937. He attended Citrus Grove Elementary and Junior High and then Miami Senior High School. He is remembered as a respected leader in high school and a positive influence among his classmates.

Tony graduated from Texas Christian University (TCU) where he served as President of the Phi Delta Theta chapter. He obtained his law degree from the University of Texas Law School and thereafter served as a Briefing Attorney for the Supreme Court of Texas under Justice Joe Greenhill. His career included partnershi­ps at Foreman & Dyess and Norton & Blair. He practiced law until his passing.

Tony was a man of faith, starting as a leader of his youth group at First Christian Church, Miami Florida and later serving as President of the Internatio­nal Christian Youth Fellowship within the Disciples of Christ Church. He was later a long-time member of St. Martins Episcopal Church.

Tony proudly served his community in numerous ways and roles, including volunteeri­ng in the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, the State Bar of Texas

Grievance Committee and the Houston Bar Associatio­n Dispute Resolution Committee. He served on the Boards of Directors of the American Red Cross and Amigos de las Americas and served as President of the Avalon Property Owners Associatio­n. He was a long-time member of River Oaks Country Club.

Tony leaves behind many loving friends and family. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Tish) Compton Hale, his brother Michael Hale and his brother’s wife Rita, their children Kim Andreus, Michael Hale and Anthony (Tony) Hale. He is survived by his son John Anthony Hale,

Jr. and his wife Maria and their child Mary Elizabeth Hale, and further survived by daughter Lisa Hale Gray and her husband Kevin Gray, and their children Austin Gray and Emily Gray.

A celebratio­n of Tony’s life will be held Friday, January 20th at 2pm in the Christ Chapel of St. Martins Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, Texas. A reception will follow to be announced at the service.
