No. 14 TCU routs No. 2 Kansas in Allen

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Shahada Wells scored 17 points as No. 14 TCU beat No. 2 Kansas 83-60 on Saturday in one of the worst losses in Bill Self 's 20-year coaching career with the Jayhawks.

It was Kansas' secondlarg­est loss at home under Self. The Jayhawks fell 84-59 to Texas on Jan. 2, 2021.

The loss snapped a 16-game winning streak at home for Kansas. The Jayhawks (15-3, 5-2 Big 12), who lost 83-82 in overtime at Kansas State on Tuesday, had not lost consecutiv­e games in the state since 1989, when it had home losses on Jan. 28 to K-State and on Feb. 1 to Missouri.

Kansas trailed by 10 at halftime and never closed the gap within single digits. TCU extended the lead to as many as 24 points. The Jayhawks shot only 32.1 percent in the second half.

TCU (15-4, 4-3 Big 12), which shot 54.4 percent (31 of 57) from the field, got 15 points from Mike Miles Jr. and 11 from Damion Baugh.

Jalen Wilson led Kansas with 30 points. He was coming off a careerhigh 38 on Tuesday against K-State. Kevin McCullar with 10 points was the only other Jayhawk in double figures.

TCU's Eddie Lampkin was hobbled with a left ankle injury suffered late in the first half. An erroneous tweet at halftime said he had a ruptured Achilles but a school spokesman later said it was a high ankle sprain. He returned and finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds.

TCU used a 19-0 run early in the first half to open a 33-13 lead, forcing Self to use three of his four timeouts in the first 9:10 of the half. The Horned Frogs hit 13 of their first 15 shots. They finished the half shooting 58.6 percent (17 of 29).

Kansas trailed by as many as 22 points (37-15) before going on an 11-0 run.

The Frogs led 48-38 at halftime, the closest Kansas had been since early in the big TCU run.

Kansas stayed in the game thanks to 21 firsthalf points by Wilson. He picked up his second foul with 2:13 left in the half.

NO. 13 KANSAS STATE 68 TEXAS TECH 58

In Manhattan, Kan., Markquis Nowell had 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Wildcats (17-2, 6-1 Big 12) won for the 11th time in 12 games.

Kansas State trailed 33-28 at halftime. But the Wildcats used a 13-2 run to take a 50-47 lead with 9:26 remaining.

In Norman, Okla., Jalen Bridges scored 11 points and hit a trio of game-turning 3-pointers in the final five minutes as the Bears rallied.

Adam Flagler had 16 points and five assists, and Keyonte George added 11 points as Baylor (14-5, 4-3 Big 12) won its fourth straight game after opening conference play with three straight losses and briefly dropping out of The Associated Press Top 25.

In El Paso, Johnell Davis scored 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting and the Owls extended their program record for consecutiv­e wins to 18 with a win over the Miners.

Trevian Tennyson scored 25 points for the host Huskies (6-13), who were down 39-38 at halftime before scoring 51 points in the second half to pull away.

In Montgomery, Ala., Hegel Augustine led the Panthers (7-13, 3-4 SWAC) with 21 points.

In Huntsville, Ala., the Tigers (6-14, 2-5 SWAC) were led by Davon Barnes' 17 points.

In Huntsville, Qua Grant scored 20 points for the Bearkats (15-5, 5-3 WAC). Justin Johnson finished with 29 for the Vaqueros (10-10, 1-6).

In Beaumont, Davante Dennis led UIW (8-12, 2-5 Southland) with 21 points.

FIU 77, UTSA 72

In San Antonio, Denver Jones' 27 points led the Panthers (9-11, 3-6 Conference USA).

Jacob Germany led the Roadrunner­s (7-14, 1-9) with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

In Birmingham, Ala., Kai Huntsberry had 19 points for the Mean Green (16-5, 7-3 Conference USA).

Sami Pissis scored 16 points for host Southeast Louisiana (11-9, 5-2 Southland).

The Lions (8-13, 4-3) were led by JJ Romer Rosario with 16 points.

In San Marcos, Jordan Mason finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals for the Bobcats (10-11, 3-5 Sun Belt).
