09/28/1940 - 02/04/2023

Bernard Emil Fick, 82, of Conroe, Texas passed away on Feb 4, 2023 while at his daughter’s side. “Butch” was born on Sept 28, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Maine Township High School in 1958. He was the first person in his family to graduate college, on a full baseball scholarship, from Michigan University in 1962 where he was a Sigma Chi.

Butch dedicated his life to his family, sports, and business. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, he worked at advertising agency, Ackerman, Hood and McQueen, Inc. where he rose to Senior Vice Present. He also enjoyed golf, tennis, and playing cards with his in-laws.

His daughter, Hollie, was born in 1977 on his birthday to him and his then-wife Carolyn Wilcox.

Later, Butch and his family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he worked as Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Head Golf. His work took him to Singapore, Morocco and Japan. He spoke fondly and often of his travels.

Eventually he returned to the Chicago area, specifically Peoria, in 1994, where he transitioned into officesupply related work. More importantly, he reunited with Patricia O’Gorman, his first wife, who also became his third. She and her family remained very dear to Butch until his death.

Bravely, at age 80, after the loss of his wife, Butch chose to relocate to Houston, Texas to be closer to his daughter and her family. Though COVID-19 made this trying at times, he made many dear friends from both the staff and residents at the Watermere at Woodland Lakes in Conroe. During his years in Houston, he celebrated Lights in the Heights, attended Rockets and Astros games, watched his second favorite baseball team win a World Series, watched his granddaughter’s team win a basketball championship, and listened from his balcony to the organist from his church play 4th of July concert.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Emil Fick and Bernice Fick, his wife, Patricia O’Gorman, and brother-inlaw, John Kraus.

He is survived by his sister, Jaqueline Kraus; daughter, Hollie Box, husband Thomas M. Box, II; grandchildren Thomas M. Box III and Howdie Jones Loveless.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local Veteran’s organization. Private services will be held at the Houston National Cemetery by family and a celebration of life will be held in late March 2023.
