IDA NELL REID

05/27/1926 - 02/02/2023

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ida Nell Pierce Reid. She was born in Warren, Arkansas to Dewey Claire and Vera Beatrice St. John Pierce. She departed this life on February 2, 2023 at her home in Houston, Texas.

She graduated from Broken Bow High School in Broken Bow, Oklahoma where she met James Mack “Jud” Reid. They would marry upon his return from serving in the United States Air Force during WWII.

After leaving Oklahoma, she spent the majority of her life in Houston. She pursued her education at the University of Houston earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and later a Master’s Degree from Sam Houston State University.

Her love of learning brought her to Deer park ISD where she taught English for twenty-five years. She loved her students, and believed her experiences as an educator thoroughly enriched her life.

Upon her retirement, in 1991 she enjoyed her work at U of H guiding and counseling student teachers, teaching English language learners and playing bridge. Her travels took her from destinations in the Caribbean to the ancient cities of Europe. She was an avid nature lover and especially loved sunrises and sunsets. Her gardening skills left friends and neighbors envious of her showy patio throughout the seasons.

She is deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Cheryl Reid of Humble, a grandson, Pierce Reid (Holland Formby) of Houston , and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Reid Kolber (Chris Kolber) of Leander.

She was especially proud of her three great grandchildren, Jace Christopher Kolber, Ayla Claire Kolber and Benjamin Pierce Reid.

A special thanks go to Christi and Sonja who lovingly cared for her needs in her final months.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, February 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the chapel at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed at OnlineMemorials.mdpc.org.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or a charity of your choice.
