David Eugene Hilton,70, died February 15, 2023 in Sugar Land, TX. He was born June 29, 1952 in the Grace Hospital of Detroit, Michigan to his parents, Harvey Hilton and Florence Beck. He grew up in East Detroit with his brother and sister, John and Diana. David left school when he was 16 and went on to learn to build houses with his grandfather, Clyde Beck.

He met his first wife and the love of his life,

Patty Economy in 1968. He enlisted in the military as a Navy SeaBee in 1972. After he completed his service, he married Patty in Southfield, Michigan on April 23, 1976 and they moved to Texas to find work that same year. Patty tragically died on May 29, 1982. David met his second wife, Tracy Hall in 1984 and they got married in Fort Bend County on November 2, 1985. He became a father on May 18, 1987 to his only son, Jacob Hilton. He was married to Tracy until she died of cancer on November 3, 2010. He never remarried.

David worked as a carpenter in Houston for over 25 years. He built and installed cabinets in many of Houston’s neighborhoods, schools and churches throughout the city, numerous offices downtown and several hospitals in Houston’s Medical Center. After his physical health began to decline, he took classes for AutoCAD at Lonestar College in 2010 and worked as a draftsman for the remainder of his life. When he wasn’t working in his woodshop during the week, he spent entire weekends in his art studio. He was an outstanding artist who from earliest childhood loved to paint, draw and sketch. He worked in oil paints, water color, pen and ink, and color pencil. Despite the several hardships and tragedies of his life, he had a thunderous laugh and a ferocious commitment to his principles and craftsmanship. Above all and more than anything else, he loved his family very much.

A celebration of his life took place on Saturday, February 25, 2023 with friends, family, coworkers and members of his church community. Condolences may be offered at www.millerfuneral.com
