THE BATH AREA

It’s a place to enjoy, retreat to in your home

- By Tamie Sanchez

The kitchen — often referred to as the “heart” of the home — is considered by many to be the favorite room in a home.

Sure, you need a place to prepare food, but when it comes to an area that makes you feel good, the bathroom is the place. It’s a safe space, the one place everyone knows not to enter while occupied.

It’s a place to relax, get inspired or the room to do your best thinking.

Your bathroom is the place in your home where everyone spends a lot of time and the most likely room your guests will visit. Whether you have a powder room or a master bathroom suite, having a good design is imperative for comfort and function.

Currently, influences from nature are having a substantial impact on bathroom design. Colors such as greens, blues, whites, grays and wood tones help to promote relaxation.

Spa features like freestand-ing tubs, showers with glass enclosures and rain shower heads, floating vanities, natu-ral stone counters, and floor-ing are on many a wish list. Even if your bathroom is short on space, adding some of these features can make your bathroom appear larger.

Benefits of remodeling

People choose to remodel their bathrooms for a number of reasons. Sometimes it’s to remove the tub in a shower/tub combo to create a larger shower. Other times, a bathroom may need a better layout and will require changing location of plumbing fixtures for better flow and function.

When remodeling a bathroom, you may want to consider incorporating universal design to make the space comfortable and safe for all ages and abilities.

Features such as curbless showers, shower benches, slip-resistant flooring, grab bars and anti-scald valves will make a bathroom safe and accessible for everyone.

Don’t take your bathrooms for granted. Boost the day-today enjoyment of your home with a bathroom renovation. A home with well designed, aesthetic and functional bathrooms will increase its value.
