Shiffrin breaks WC wins record

ARE, Sweden — American skier Mikaela Shiffrin set the outright World Cup record for most career victories with 87 by winning a slalom Saturday.

Shiffrin broke a tie with Ingemar Stenmark on the all-time overall winners list between men and women. The Swede competed in the 1970s and 80s.

“Pretty hard to comprehend,” Shiffrin said about the record.

Ex-Vikings coach Grant dies at 95

Bud Grant, the stoic Hall of Fame coach who took the Minnesota Vikings to four Super Bowls in eight years and lost all of them, has died. He was 95.

The Vikings announced Grant's death on social media Saturday.

Grant guided the Vikings from 1967-85, with a one-year hiatus in 1984, on his way to a 158-96-5 record with 11 division championsh­ips in 18 seasons.

D-Backs, Carroll have $111M deal

Outfielder Corbin Carroll and the Arizona Diamondbac­ks have agreed to an $111 million, eight-year contract that also has a club option for the 2031 season, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Bruins fastest to 50 victories

Garnet Hathaway broke a third-period tie to host lead Boston to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

The Bruins earned their 50th win in their 64th game, making them the fastest team to reach the milestone in NHL history. The previous record of 66 was set by the 1995-96 Red Wings and matched by the 2018-19 Lightning.

Swiatek cruises at Indian Wells

Top-ranked Iga Swiatek routed Claire Liu in 65 minutes to win her opening match at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Calif.

Swiatek won 6-0, 6-1. Taylor Fritz, the defending men's champion, rallied past Ben Shelton, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Andy Murray beat Radu Albot, 6-4, 6-3.

Utah rejoining NWSL next year

The NWSL and Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake announced the second iteration of the Utah Royals on Saturday. The Royals were part of the NWSL for three seasons from 2018 to 2020.
