ALICE RUTH ANDY

Alice was born in Webster, WV on April 20, 1939, to Dellet and Beatrice Groghan, spending her early years as a true coal miner’s daughter. Her love for West Virginia and its beautiful mountain scenery and gorgeous fall seasons often brought her back to visit.
Alice married Frank Samuel Andy after high school and together, they began the adventure of a lifetime living in various places around the world including Newfoundland, California, Arizona, Texas, and Bermuda. Frank Samuel Andy, Jr (son) and Ashley (daughter) soon joined the adventures and brought immense joy to their parents.
After 24 years of marriage, Alice’s husband Frank passed away in 1981. While the loss felt unbearable, Alice tapped into her unwavering determination and resilience to chart a new path for herself and her family. As a consummate professional with a fastidious eye for detail, Alice built a successful career as a banker in the Houston area.
In 1996, Alice married Garry Modrell and began the next fulfilling chapter of her life. As a devoted Catholic (and founding family of Prince of Peace Church), she and Garry became even more active participants in the church with a focus on giving back to the community. She continued her love of traveling by visiting Italy, Atlantis, Aruba, and Curacao as well as never missing an important event for her children and grandchildren.
She is well known for being a true “lady” with tremendous style and grace. She dressed to the nines for every occasion. She loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She surrounded herself with a lifetime of friends from the church and the neighborhood Ladies Club. And let’s not forget her love of dancing. When any “oldie” song came on, you would always find Alice out on the dance floor.
Alice left this “Vale of Tears” on Monday, March 13, 2023, now at peace and reunited with her heavenly loved ones, after a long battle with her health. She was surrounded by her family to the very last breath.
She was proceeded in death by her first husband Frank Andy and survived by her husband Garry Modrell, son Frank Samuel Andy and his wife Lauren Samuel, daughter Ashley Andy and partner Mark Leistritz, stepdaughter Shannon Modrell and husband Brent Uzzell, granddaughters Isabella Samuel and Giavanna Samuel and many other relatives in Morgantown, WV.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 20, 2023, from 4:00-8:00 pm at Klein Funeral Home at 16131 Champion Forest Dr, Spring, TX.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Prince of Peace Church 19222 TX-249, Houston, TX, with a reception to follow.
